Special Needs Adult Program (SNAP)ST. ANDREW UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
SPECIAL NEEDS ADULT PROGRAM (S.N.A.P.)
An Education Outreach Ministry
PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS
A person has innate worth, has ideas/opinions of value, and has basic human rights. We acknowledge these facts and structure our daily program to encourage and support the whole person in an accepting Christian environment.
PROGRAM POLICIES
This program is offered to post-graduate high school students who cannot or have not found employment because of physical or mental challenges. These persons were classified in the public school system as SLD (severe learning disability) or the higher functioning MI (mentally impaired).
The S.N.A.P. class is designed to meet the social and recreational needs of our program participants. In order to be accepted into the program, an applicant must be able to play games independently without constant supervision.
TUITION
Monthly tuition is due on the first of each month. Tuition is $160.00 per month. There are scholarships available for half of each month's tuition. These are awarded by the Missions Committee at the beginning of each school year.
REGISTRATION FEE/SUPPLY FEE
A registration fee of $30.00 is due along with your child's application/registration form. This non-refundable fee ensures your student's slot for the upcoming school year. The supply fee is $25.00 and is due in the fall semester along with the first month's tuition.
CLASS TIME
The class meets four days a week (Tuesday-Friday) from 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Students should not arrive in class before 9:15 a.m. The S.N.A.P. Class follows the Kanawha County School calendar for days off and holidays.
LUNCH
Students bring their lunch each day to class. We have a refrigerator and a microwave in our kitchen area for them to use. On Friday we usually eat out or order food delivered. Students bring money to cover the cost of their meal.
S.N.A.P. SHOP
The S.N.A.P shop is a place that we have set up in the office space of one of our rooms. The students display and sell their handmade crafts. We make holiday crafts throughout the year as well as earrings to sell. The money made is used to fund some field trips and special projects that the students have chosen.
FIELD TRIPS
Our students try to take field trips on each Friday if the weather permits. Some places they like to go are to the movies, bowling, library, shopping, Chuck E. Cheeze. We combine our field trip with our lunch outing on that day so they spend the whole day out of the room
