Sing for joy in summer
When earth is bright and green.

Sing for fun in winter
When snow is velveteen.

In spring sing out with gusto
For the life to soon unfold –

And sing with zest in autumn
For the woodlands colored gold.

FALL TRIP
Do you want to take a trip to see the fall leaves? If your answer is “yes”, then plan to travel with the Pathfinders on the church van to Tygart Lake State Park for lunch and then on to the Mother’s Day Shrine on Tuesday, October 5th.

You will dine for lunch at the Tygart Lake Lodge where they offer down-home favorites and original local fare. After lunch, you will travel to Grafton to visit the Mother’s Day Shrine. You will have a tour guide and the cost to enter will be $3 each (this is not wheelchair accessible and there will be some steps to climb).

If you would like to travel with the Pathfinders, please make your reservations by calling the church office at 304-727-7114 before Tuesday, September 21.

In the Good Old Summertime
In the summertime, we can practice learning how to listen to God all around us in creation.

“Hear His love in the beauty of the setting
   sun.
Hear His joy with you in the power of an
   evening thunderstorm booming around
   your house.
Hear His forgiveness in the smile of a lost-
   found friend.
What does God long to hear from us?
Obedience, surrender, gratitude of spirit.
Practice praising God this summer.
His smile is overwhelming to your heart.”

FROM YOUR CHRISTIAND EDUCATION DIRECTOR
My decision to leave St. Andrew was a difficult one but as many of you know, I simply had to give my priority to family needs. I have made many wonderful friends here and will cherish the time we have spent together. Most of all, I will miss the children. The little ones who attend our Pre-K program and our Children’s Worship have become special to me.

In Matthew 19:14 it is recorded that Jesus said: Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. So, I want to encourage the members of St. Andrew to do whatever it takes to keep the Pre-K and Children’s worship program going. Teaching and leading the little children to Christ is exactly what Melanie, Sybil, Pam, Karen (Pre-K) and Alex (Children’s Worship) do very well. I believe their heavenly reward will be great because of their love for those little ones.

The students in the S.N.A.P. program have also been a blessing to me. Their honesty and their love for God are incredible. During my tenure here the staff of the S.N.A.P. program has been fluid, but the students adjusted well. The S.N.A.P. students are truly a blessing to this church.

To those of you who diligently work in various ministries of this church I want to encourage you to keep pressing on. St. Andrew has been blessed with so many people with tremendous talent. You have a beautiful history and I am certain you can have a bright future.

Grace and Peace to all of you,

Shalom,

Steve Brown

CHRISTMAS BASKETS
Last year the Christmas Basket program was a great success and we have been asked to sponsor this need again for 2010, but we need the help of the congregation of St. Andrew. Please find a list of items that we are asking to be donated each week.  This is a wonderful program that we provide to our neighbors and without your support we could not do it, so thank you in advance.

Are you interested in a Women’s Bible Study this fall on Wednesday evenings? Kathy Danberry has volunteered to lead the study, but she needs to know how many would be interested. Here are the two studies that would be provided.

Jesus the One and Only by Beth Moore. This is an in-depth study of the life of Jesus based on the book of Luke. Come along with Beth on a life changing journey which will lead you through the hills of Galilee with the Teacher, across the lake with the Master, and finally, on the road toward the cross with the Savior. Get to know Jesus intimately…as though you had walked with Him during His days of earthly ministry.

Breaking Free by Beth Moore. Discover the freedom available to you from the transforming power of Christ. Based on Isaiah 61:1-4, this in-depth Bible study draws parallels between the Israelites in captivity and believers in spiritual captivity. This study uses scripture to help identify spiritual strongholds in your life and explains that anything that hinders you from the benefits of knowing God is bondage.

If you are interested in these studies, please contact Kathy at 304-722-1262 or kathydanberry@yahoo.com.

TASTERS’ TEA

Believe it or not it’s time to be thinking about your favorite recipes for this year’s Tasters’ Tea. October will be here before we know it and we need to begin gathering our favorite recipes to share with others.

Recipes can be submitted to Janette Peggs at jcw4171macy@yahoo.com, Kristi Henrich at tkhenrich@aol.com, Rae Lawson at merae@suddenlink.net, or Kathy Hollingsworth at gidget2612@yahoo.com.

Watch your email for more information on this year’s Tea.

PRESCHOOL NEWS

Summer preschool camp has now come to an end. This was the first camp that was designed to help serve unmet needs in our community (according to a survey of current preschool parents that was taken in the fall). We hoped for at least 6-8 children to consider our camp a success, and we were blessed with 15! A good majority of these children have signed up for Vacation Bible School, and for our fall preschool session.

We will have an open house on Thursday, August 26th, 5:30-7:30 p.m. for all incoming students as well as those interested in our program. Thank you for your support of the Education Outreach Ministries of St. Andrew. We really do make a difference!

On a sad note, we will miss Steve Brown who has been instrumental in so many ways with the preschool program. The children enjoyed his stories in chapel time and the teachers will miss his guidance and support.
