Grief Resource2 Corinthians 1:4 reminds us that God comforts us so that we may comfort others.
The Grief Resource Group here at St. Andrew is a small gathering of individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one and want to help comfort those who are grieving. We are not a formal support group, but focus instead on finding resources for those who are trying to deal with their grief. All are welcome to attend our next meeting Our projects have included putting together a collection of books on grieving, making available to the congregation some Upper Room booklets of prayers and meditations for difficult times, discouragement, and illness, as well as a variety of CareNotes pamphlets to comfort and provide help in the grieving process. The booklet “Do You Know Someone Who Is In Need of Comfort?” is a compilation of suggestions and reminders of the many ways that each of us can help and comfort those who are grieving. There are some support groups in the area. The Teays Valley Church of God is hosting a new “GriefShare” weekly support group from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Their newspaper notice states “GriefShare is a special support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. The group is sponsored by people who understand what grief feels like and is designed to offer comfort and encouragement to those who are grieving. The group is free and open to the community. Free child care is available upon request. Teays Valley Church of God is located at 4430 Teays Valley Road in Scott Depot.” In addition, HospiceCare offers Grief Recovery Support Groups on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at HospiceCare's main office, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston. The series of groups begin on the first Tuesday of each month and are led by licensed professional counselors. The groups are free and available to all, not just for families of Hospice patients.
